Late February saw the fourth anniversary of the Russian attacks on eastern Ukraine and the resultant flight of many people who feared the likelihood of a full-scale invasion. In the early days we were able to use the facilities at Casa Neemia to provide short-term respite for people seeking refuge; our initial visitors often moved on after a short period of rest.
Short-term visitors: A peaceful retreat, a welcome meal, a tank of fuel
For the past three years we have been able to provide longer-term accommodation for several families from the areas of the fighting. These people have come from areas that have been substantially destroyed and they now have nothing to go back to. We have expanded Casa Neemia to provide additional accommodation and we are able to provide food from our daily collections from local supermarkets. The children have been accepted into local schools and found friends there.
Several of our Ukrainian guests have health issues resulting from what they have experienced. In addition, most of them now have no regular income and this adds to their feeling of insecurity. We trust that the bi-national community which has developed will help to bring some healing and peace of mind.

I have been in Romania since the very beginning of the war, on March 8, 2022, and in Dorohoi ( CASA NEEMIA ) since August 2025. There are living conditions here (rooms, a bathroom, a kitchen for cooking). The Neemia team takes care of everyone in the house (bringing groceries, helping with transportation, and repairing household appliances if needed). May the Lord bless them for their kindness, warmth, compassion, understanding, their concern for the fate of Ukrainians, and their care for everyone in the house. Sincerely, Nataliia.

Using Casa Neemia in this way was not part of our business plan, it is a drain on our resources and has an adverse effect on our other activities. Nevertheless, we are grateful for the often-miraculous provision of the necessary funding.
