It is with sadness that we record the passing of Pastor Dumitru Condrea. Dumitru was our first contact in Dorohoi some 30+ years ago; he and his wife have been consistently involved in our work in Romania. For our first team visit in 1994 Dumitru became responsible for finding suitable storage for three lorry-loads of goods and for arranging for their distribution after we had gone. He also provided meals and sorted out accommodation for 14 visitors. All of us singing together in his small apartment is an abiding memory.
The highlight of the final week of July was the annual children’s camp when some 50 young teenagers from Dorohoi were able to spend quality time in fresh air exercise and learning to integrate with others from a different area of Romania. There are some initial photos below but we expect to add some more shortly. We have already had requests from campers who want to come again next year!
The daily food collections from two supermarkets have continued. During July we were given groceries, primarily vegetables and fruit, totalling over £9,000 in shelf value. We have also received bulk supplies of soft drinks, bottled water and snacks which we distribute along with the supermarket produce. The food distribution continues in parallel with our usual distribution of clothes and other items.
Below is a letter from Steve Flegg, a long-term supporter and trustee of RoAF. Many people in Romania have benefitted from his support and generosity, and we thank Steve on their behalf.
I just wanted to say a big thank you to everyone who is involved with the Romanian Aid Foundation, here in Britain and in Romania.
I have been a part of this charity for many years, I have been very fortunate to have met many lovely people along the way, here and in Romania, I have met some whilst collecting aid, packing aid, transporting it to Romania and helping in the distribution of aid to the poor and needy in and around Dorohoi. I am happy that now, I am a trustee of RoAF.
I am always amazed and thankful for the generosity of others, we couldn’t manage without it. I have heard over the years people say, “I don’t do much” but this is not true, everyone does something, we are in this together, it doesn’t matter, doing it is what counts.
Once again, thank you to everyone involved with RoAF, here and in Wales; a bigger thank-you must go to Beni, Ionela and their team in Dorohoi, what a job they do. I couldn’t be prouder of all of you.
